Do you remember that children's song... "Read your Bible, Pray every day, pray every day, pray every day... Read your Bible, pray every day and you'll grow, grow, GROW!"
There is truth in these words and if we want to grow in our faith even more, God's word needs to be written on our hearts.

Psalm 40:8 ~
I delight to do your will, O my God: yes, your law is within my heart.
Our world can be a confusing and dark place and while we try our best to protect our children, there will come a time when they will be faced with circumstances and the decisions will be their own. We want our children to have deep roots for when storms come.
A friend and former colleague of mine grew up overseas as a missionary kid, and one day a young missionary man was kidnapped not far from where she and her family were living. He was gone for a very long time and since there was no news about him or from him, there was a strong possibility that he was no longer alive. Then, miraculously, he was released. Everyone was overjoyed! When she heard him speak, he told them that through the many months that he was held captive, he was able to keep hope by singing hymns and other worship songs, and by reciting every Scripture verse he had ever memorized. What an amazing testimony!
Though our children have a Bible available to them, I want them to hide God’s Word in their heart, so that when they need it, it is so deeply a part of who they are, that they can find hope in any and all circumstances.
Not only does memorizing Scripture allow us to act more like Christ in the face of temptation, it also allows us to hear His voice and His words as we go through each day. When asked what the greatest commandment is, Jesus said, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind’” (Matthew 22:37). If we want our kids to be fully immersed in loving God, they need His words in their hearts and coursing through their thoughts.
May our children know that God is with them every step of the way and may He bring them peace!
